Despite the photovoltaic boom – target achievement still a long way off
This year, a record number of over 700,000 photovoltaic systems with a capacity of 9,900 megawatts were installed in Germany, exceeding the federal government's original plans by 110 percent. This solar boom was encouraged by the reduction in VAT for solar power plants, the increase in electricity prices and the availability of " balcony power plants " . Nevertheless, the pace of solar expansion is still too slow. The target of covering at least 80 percent of gross electricity consumption with renewable energies by 2030 does not seem to be an easy undertaking and still requires a lot of work. Nevertheless, the Federal Republic is on an excellent path.
To achieve the renewable energy targets, increased efforts and better infrastructure are needed, including more suppliers, distributors, installers and more efficient authorities to manage the expansion. Some federal states, such as Brandenburg, have already launched initiatives to increase photovoltaic output. While solar expansion is successful, other areas of renewable energy generation are stagnating. Wind power expansion must also be urgently improved and promoted in order to achieve the energy targets.
